DES MOINES, Iowa - A woman in Iowa is getting lots of attention. She gave birth to a baby boy that could be the largest child ever delivered naturally at the state's busiest birthing unit.
The 5,000 or so infants who arrive at Mercy Hospital each year are precious and special, but whoa, baby! This one is a big deal.
Baby boy Asher Stewardson is the second child born to parents Kendall and Joshua Stewardson.
Like most second children, Asher's delivery is compared to the first child, his brother Judah.
Judah weighed in at a whopping 12 pounds. but Asher looked smaller on the ultrasound.
After six hours of pushing, Asher measured 23 1/2 inches long weighing 13 pounds 12 ounces.
What's more amazing is that Asher is "au naturalle" -- meaning no surgery and no drugs for Kendall, not even an epidural during delivery.
Natural delivery carries risks for the mother, but Kendall took it in stride. and is doing very well.
