Giffords answers many questions about her recovery and future in exclusive interview

CLEVELAND - America will hear from Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords tonight for the first time in an exclusive interview, since she was shot in the head in January,

The Democrat from Arizona shared her story with ABC's Diane Sawyer. Giffords tells Sawyer that it has been a long, difficult road to recovery.

Jared Loughner allegedly shot Giffords as she met with constituents at a shopping plaza.

During arduous months of surgeries, medical treatment and rehabilitation, her husband, Astronaut Commander Mark Kelly, was at her side, holding her hand through the whole journey.

Kelly was also documenting his wife's struggles and determination.

Hours of video tape show Giffords fighting step by step, word by word.

There were highs and lows. But Kelly never doubted his wife's determination.

"Gabrielle Giffords is too tough to let this beat her," Kelly said.

She feels the same way about him, and said so during Sawyer's exclusive interview.

When asked what's the first word she thinks of when Giffords thinks about her husband, she answered, "Brave. Brave."

During the exclusive interview, Sawyer asked Giffords the questions so many people have been wondering: What does she remember of that violent day in January? And does she think she'll run for congress again?
