Four of the countries largest fast food chains rated the lowest in a recent survey conducted by Consumer Reports. Burger King, KFC, McDonald’s and Taco Bell rated worse than many others.

The survey to rate the best fast food chains was responded to by Consumer Reports subscribers who made a total of 98,000 visits to 53 chains. Their responses picked the aforementioned restaurants worse than many others because of uninspiring food and so-so service. Other major chains with low scores were Arby’s, Quizno’s, Domino’s and Pizza Hut.

Readers did give high marks to other restaurants. Of the 21 chains that received high marks for food, 11 of them stood out for value. In-N-Out Burger, Chipotle and Chik-Fil-A ranked at the top of their type and offered “speedy and solicitous service.”

Other findings:

15-19 percent who ate at Burger King, KFC, McDonald’s or Taco Bell rated the food fair, poor or very poor.

Best value: In-N-Out Burger, Papa Murphy’s and Cici’s Pizza

Worst value: Sbarro, Round Table Pizza and KFC

Slowest places to get fast food: KFC, Popeyes and Pizza Hut
