KANSAS CITY - A mother in Kansas City is being blamed for trapping her 10-year-old daughter in a closet.

KCTV reported that officials are not sure how long the girl was trapped in the closet, but when they found the girl she was severely malnourished.

She weighed only 32 pounds, which is considered half of what her weight should be.

The Jackson County Prosecutor described the disturbing conditions the girl was forced to live in, “she obviously had defecated multiple times in that room, the stench of urine was, I'm told, hard to bear.”

The neighbors of the girl were shocked to hear about the situation because they didn’t even know she existed.

The little girl has two siblings, but she was the only one treated differently.

The police said they questioned the father but he was found to not be responsible.

The father’s sister said he separated with the children’s mother, and her family was told that the little girl lived with an aunt.
