NORWALK, Ohio - Norwalk police have found the 17-year-old teen who had been missing for about three weeks.
Abbi Obermiller was located Wednesday morning after officers searched an apartment in New London, Ohio. Police said they received an anonymous tip that Obermiller was living in a unit there.
The Norwalk Police Department said she had been staying with her boyfriend, Bobbie Young, who rented the apartment about three weeks ago. Young is now in police custody and is facing charges for interfering with the investigation.
Police monitored the home and eventually entered it after obtaining a search warrant. They found Obermiller hiding in the attic. According to police, Abbi said she planned to stay in the apartment until she turned 18.
Investigators said Obermiller was interviewed and provided information that included the names of the people who helped her run away and hide from authorities.
Obermiller was allowed to meet with her parents and grandparents for a short time before she was taken to the Sandusky County Juvenile Detention Facility. She has been charged with obstruction with official business and being an unruly child.
"What do you say?" her father Jim Obermiller said. "It's your daughter, you went through three weeks of worry, then it's over. It's over. You know the police and the media did their job. Now, I get to take my daughter home, and I've got to make things right with my daughter."
After her hearing, she returned to the detention facility until her next hearing. The judge ordered her to the detention facility, despite her family's pleas for her to come home with them. A date for Obermiller's next hearing has not been set, but will likely be decided Thursday afternoon, according to the Huron County Juvenile Court.
The case originally accelerated after police received a tip on Father's Day that Abbi had been killed. Her parents then went on CNN's Nancy Grace Show to ask for help in getting their daughter home safe.
Norwalk police had been investigating the case since June 6.
