CLEVELAND - Three capybaras were born Friday night at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo rainforest, the zoo announced on Wednesday.
Capybaras are the world’s largest rodents and now the zoo has six of them, including the new babies’ parents. The family is on exhibit on the second floor of the rainforest.
Native to the Andes Mountains in South America, capybaras can grow to be 4 and a half feet long and weigh 150 pounds. The zoo said the animals are related to chinchillas and guinea pigs.
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $12.25 for adults, $8.25 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children under 2. Parking is free.
