YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Police say an 8-year-old northeast Ohio boy sleeping in a bunk bed died when he was struck by shots fired from across the street.
Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley said as many as a dozen rounds from a semi-automatic weapon were fired into the house where the boy was sleeping at about 1:15 a.m. Monday. The house next door was hit, too.
The Vindicator reports that the boy was sleeping in the top bunk in his bedroom when he was hit in the head with shots from a military-style weapon.
Foley declined to release any more details of the shooting. Police don't know of anyone else being shot, and nobody has been arrested.
