NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio - People using the bike path in the Mill Stream Run Reservation this past Sunday morning got a ssss-surprise.
A Burmese python estimated at 8 feet long and weighing 30 pounds was spotted sunning in the grass near the Paw Paw picnic area on the Strongsville-North Royalton border.
Metropark Rangers responded and took the snake to their headquarters then passed the animal on to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for medical care.
The python is currently in quarantine and is being evaluated.
Officials believe the serpent was dumped in the park by someone who no longer wanted it as a pet.
Cleveland Metropark Zoo General Curator Geoff Hall said the snake would likely be unable to fend for itself in the wild. Hall went on to urge all pet owners to be responsible.
"Do your research before getting a pet... Don't own a pet that you can't give a lifetime of care," said Hall.
It is illegal to release animals within the Cleveland Metropark system.
