LA CRESCENTA, Calif. - Distracted texters have hit the headlines for many reasons. But the guy in this story is going to be hard to beat.
Vaz Terdandeny was texting his boss that he'd be late for work, when he came face-to-face with a 400 pound black bear hungry for breakfast.
And the whole incident was caught on camera, thanks to a news crew watching from the sky.
"I'm coming down the stairs and I see the bear coming down the stairs toward me so I turned back and a ran for my life," laughed Terdandeny.
Dubbed Glen Bearian, this is a thoroughly modern bear who's suspected of stalking the L.A. suburb of La Crescenta for more than a month. But the animal may have taught us all a lesson.
How many times have you nearly knocked out, run over, or bumped into someone because you -- or they are -- paying attention to a cellphone?
In a world of smartphones, texting and bears, we're not in Kansas anymore.
