WASHINGTON - The Death Star petition on the White House website has gained more than enough signatures to get a reaction from President Barack Obama's administration.

The petition calls to "secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016."

Before the White House would respond, it requires petitions to gain 25,000 signatures. The deadline for the Death Star petition was Dec. 14 and the signatures far exceeded the requirement, gaining 31,137.

"By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense," the petition reads.

It was created on Nov. 14.

The Death Star is a fictional moon-sized space station and superweapon appearing in the "Star Wars" movies. It's capable of destroying a planet with a single destructive energy beam, according to Wikipedia.
