JERSEY CITY, N.J. - An escalator mishap caused chaos at a New Jersey commuter train station.
The New York Times reported commuters were riding the escalator 'up' at the Jersey City PATH station, when suddenly the escalator reversed directions.
The malfunction caused a stampede of people down the moving staircase.
Five people suffered cuts, scrapes and bruises in the confusion.
Crews closed the escalator for repairs.
