SHEFFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio - For a generation shaped by reality TV, this is how you find "Mr. Right."
Go to a casting call with nearly 200 other women, fill out an application, take a picture, submit to an on-camera interview, and then hope someone-- not Mr. Right himself, but a television network executive-- calls to whisk you to a far away place where Mr. Right could humiliate you on national television.
Welcome to tryouts for ABC's "The Bachelor."
"It's not very often that you get this opportunity in your own town and I'm not married and I don't have a boyfriend so why not?" asked Angela.
A casting call for the hit show was held at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Sheffield Village Tuesday. Nearly 200 women submitted applications for next season, and like the bachelor himself, the show is looking for women with a unique set of qualities.
"Someone who's excited about this opportunity and someone who's looking for a great adventure. Open and honest, you know, willing to share this love story with us," said casting director Ashley Dickinson.
A woman named Jamie Lee (we are abiding by the show's request to avoid using last names of potential contestants ) drove all the way from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to audition for the show.
"I'm trying to find the love of my life," she said.
Matia believes she knows what the show is looking for in a contestant.
"I think a lady that's entertaining. That's fun and who's outgoing. You have to be outgoing," she said.
The Bachelor and its sister show, the Bachelorette, boast very modest records when it comes to helping contestants form lasting relationships. Best guess: about four couples in 10 years and 16 seasons.
"I think it's practical. I think it's realistic," Dickinson said.
