STRONGSVILLE, Ohio - The start of the high school football season is just days away, and Strongsville may not be able to transport its band to the away games.
"The $8,000 needed to pay for transportation, fuel and drivers is simply not there this year," said Superintendent Jeff Kampert. With state funds eroding and delinquent taxes, something had to give.
Things were looking grim for the band until Monday morning, when the local Optimist Club, along with other anonymous donors came through with the cash. The Strongsville High School band is now financially covered for its 2010 football season.
"It's great news for our kids, and we certainly want to thank those folks that have come forward to help us out," said Kampert.
