ELYRIA, Ohio - A street sign near Elyria’s police station is being renamed for one of its officers who was killed in the line of duty.
The street is named after Officer James Kerstetter, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on March 15.
North Street becomes Kerstetter Way on Friday, which would have been his 44th birthday.
The new road signs are being unveiled at 2 p.m. Friday at the East Falls Walkway, near Elyria’s police station.
Officer Kerstetter left behind a wife and three daughters.
Kerstetter was killed while responding to a call at an Elyria home. His fellow officers shot and killed the suspected gunman, Ronald Palmer.
