CHIPPEWA LAKE, Ohio - Four dogs taken from a Medina County home by investigators last week were put up for adoption Thursday morning, and it didn't take long for all four to be adopted and find new homes Thursday.

Sue Franks, of Cleveland, took home the first pup, a yorkie mix that she named Precious. As Sue kissed her new pup she said it felt like "Christmas Morning."

George Nemet adopted the second dog today at the Pet Smart in Medina where the Medina County SPCA will also put some of the dogs up for adoption Friday and Saturday from noon to four.

Other adoption times will be next Friday and Saturday February 25th and 26th at the Petco in Wadsworth.

The animals were among the 119 dogs rescued from the home on Dawnshire Drive, in Chippewa Lake, on Friday and Saturday.

Five of the dogs were dead. The rest are being treated at the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and once they get their shots and are cleared by a veterinarian they can be adopted.

On Sunday, five more puppies were born, bringing the dog total to 124 rescued.

The five animals will be available at the Medina PetSmart. The store has been working with the Medina County SPCA on the case.

Over the weekend, humane officer Mary Jo Johnson said garbage and feces were piled as high as two feet around the dogs and their cages on the first floor.

"It's the worst thing I've ever seen and I was amazed at once we got inside how many animals were in there," Johnson said.

Some of the dogs have bite marks. Many of them have worms. Workers and volunteers have been cleaning the animals and contacting veterinarians so the dogs can get vaccinations.

The prosecutor charged the woman who lived in the house, Glenda Curtis, 54, with 20 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Curtis' daughter, 27-year-old Danielle Tschappat, also faces 20 counts of animal cruelty. Neither woman will be arrested, but they will be subpoenaed to appear in Wadsworth Municipal Court.

For more information on adopting, volunteering or donating to the Medina County SPCA call 330-723-7722.
