CLEVELAND - A judge sentenced Yazeed Essa, the former doctor who was convicted for murdering his wife, Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 20 years -- the maximum penalty allowed.
On Friday, a jury found Essa guilty of poisoning his wife, Rosemarie, with cyanide.
During the sentencing, Rosemarie's parents addressed the court.
“What do you say to the man who murdered the mother of his children?” Rose's mother said. “Seven weeks of looking at the devil in his eyes and a blank expression.”
“It’s not always easy, in fact it’s never easy,” Rocco DiPuccio said about how his son now raises his daughter’s children.
"I pray that God gives us the grace to erase him from our minds and hearts," said Rosmarie's friend, referring to the time Yazeed Essa will be in prison.
"Your lack of remorse is unreal... unreal," said the judge. I am so glad that you are leaving my courtroom and I hope to never have to see you again."
His attorneys plan to appeal the guilty verdict.
