CLEVELAND - The family of Shana Gardner-Carson is making funeral arrangements for the 45-year-old who was stabbed to death inside her home in the 10900 block Grantwood Avenue early Sunday morning.
Meantime, people on Grantwood Avenue on Cleveland's east side are trying to come to terms with the death of a woman who meant so much to their neighborhood.
"What she did was done from the heart, not the mouth, she showed her love in every kind of way," said Grace Jeffereson.
Gardner-Carson had filed for divorce six days ago. She died from multiple stab wounds, according to the Cuyahoga County coroner.
Police arrested her husband, 51-year-old Ramon Carson. He was charged Monday afternoon with one count of aggravated murder. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.
Carson has served time in prison related to burglary and non-payment of child support. However, he did not have any children with the victim.
Cleveland police said they received a call at 1:26 a.m. from a man In Pennsylvania, stating his brother had killed his wife on Grantwood Avenue. Investigators responded and Carson informed officers that his wife was in an upstairs bedroom.
She was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardner-Carson was an architect and was responsible for the coordination, inspection and completion of the interior of the new juvenile justice center, according to her resume on the website linkedin.com.
She was a graduate of Shaker Heights High School and Kent State University and owned a photography business called Images by Shana.
Court records indicate Shana filed for divorce on Aug. 2 and received a temporary restraining order against her husband.
The victim's friend, Zenaide Jefferson, said she feared Ramon would kill Shana.
"I kept telling her to leave him, leave him, leave him. She came to me last month. She said, 'I'm getting a divorce. I filed for divorce papers.' Once he found out, he killed her. Simple as that," Jefferson said.
Neighbors said Shana didn't have any children, but she always looked after kids on the block.
"She was nice. She took care of everybody. She walked up and down the street in the summertime and she would give us popsicles and everything. She'd give us chips. She bought us Christmas toys at Christmas," said 17-year-old neighbor, Tramaine Durden.
Ironically, Shana wrote on her facebook page just last month, "Life is precious and time is short."
Her friends are now calling for justice.
"I just wish he'd stay in jail the rest of his life because he killed an angel," Jefferson said.
