Couple found dead after apparent murder-suicide

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio - An apparent murder-suicide occurred at a home on Russell Road in Bay Village Saturday, officials said.

Police were called by a resident and asked to perform a welfare check at a home in the 27000 block of Russell Road around 3 p.m..

Officers went to the house and found Michael Rothgery, 42, and his wife, Mary, 40, dead.

Michael Rothgery was found in the backyard of the house with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

While checking the interior of the residence, officers found Mary Rothgery dead in a TV room. There were no obvious signs of trauma on her body.

A search then ensued for the couple's young children, who could not be readily located.

The children were eventually found unharmed. They were with relatives in Lorain County.

Autopsies for the couple are scheduled for Sunday.
