WOOSTER, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Wooster Police Department are investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday.

Just after 2 a.m., the OSHP and Wooster Police made contact with a suspicious vehicle at 1315 Smithville-Western Rd., just west of SR 83.

Officers made contact with the vehicle, which then accelerated into the yard of a residence before driving towards officers.

Shots were fired at the vehicle as it drove towards officers. The vehicle and right front passenger were struck as a result of the gun fire. Following the shooting, the vehicle drove off of the side of the roadway and into a embankment.

The driver, Stephen Thompson, 24, of Ashland attempted to flee and resisted arrested while being taken into custody. He was transported to the Wayne County Justice Center.

The passenger Ryan Michael Porter, 24, of West Salem was transported from the scene to Wooster Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was later transported to Akron General Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
