SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A woman has been arrested after the hit-and-run death of a 16-year-old Springfield Township boy.
Dianna L. Vandyne, 46, of Mogadore, was taken into custody on Thursday, and charged with tampering with evidence and felony hit-skip, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Anthony Weakland, 16, was hit while walking to his sister’s house on Albrecht Avenue on July 17 . He was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10 p.m.
"You took something from us. We'll never be able to replace, never, never. How dare you?" Anthony’s sister, Allison Weakland, said the day after the crash.
Later that day, hundreds of people went out to the site for a candlelight vigil for the teen who liked riding his dirt bike.
Vandyne was stopped in Portage County at about 4 p.m. for the arrest warrant from Akron Municipal Court. Troopers said she was taken to the Summit County Jail.
During a hearing Friday, a judge set her bond at $100,000. Vandyne is scheduled to be arraigned August 10 at 8 a.m.
