AKRON, Ohio - The Stow teen facing multiple felony charges in what's been dubbed the craigslist killings case is set for a three-day hearing locally in April. But he's also expected to officially be indicted in Summit County on Friday.
Co-defendant Brogan Rafferty, 17, will appear in Summit County Juvenile Court on April 17, 18 and 19, where a judge will determine if he'll be tried as an adult in the deadly phony craigslist job scam. Rafferty is accused of the attempted murder of one man in Noble County and has been linked to at least the death of another, according to court officials.
Rafferty also has a Friday arraignment scheduled in Summit County Common Pleas Court at 8 a.m. It's expected he'll be indicted in connection to the death of David Pauley and victim Scott Davis, both who responded to the fake craigslist ad to work on a farm.
Davis survived the attack.
Prosecutors have also tied Richard Beasley to the murders, who they called the "mastermind" behind the deadly scheme.
Since January, Rafferty has been held at the juvenile detention center where his parents have been allowed to visit him once a week, the Beacon Journal reports.
Rafferty's case was earlier transferred from Noble County to Summit County because the jail in Noble County could not accommodate juveniles.
Prosecutors believe Ralph Geiger was the first of Beasley's and Rafferty's victims in August 2011.
-Ralph Geiger, 56, from Akron, was shot and killed on Aug. 9, 2011. His body was found along a rural road.
-David Pauley, 51, from Norfolk, Va., was shot and killed on Oct. 23, 2011. He was later found buried in a shallow grave.
-Scott Davis, 48, from South Carolina, was shot on Nov. 6, but escaped the crime spree. He then called police.
-Timothy Kern, 47, from Massillon, was lured to the farm where he was shot and killed on Nov. 13. Kern's body was found Nov. 29 in a shallow grave near Rolling Acres Mall.
Beasley remains behind bars at the Summit County Jail. He's being held without bond after being slapped with a 28-count indictment last month.
A trial date for Beasley has not yet been set, but prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty.
Because Rafferty is 17-years-old, he is not eligible to receive the death penalty, regardless if he's tried as an adult in Summit County.
