AKRON, Ohio - A 44-year-old man was arrested for making methamphetamine for the second time at the same Akron house since December.
Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards said the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force was checking out 926 Chester Avenue for a wanted female just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. But Steven P. Thornton answered the door.
Marshals smell a strong odor of chemicals used for cooking meth when the door opened and Thornton was immediately arrested, Edwards said. The house is only a couple hundred feet away from Smith Elementary School.
On Tuesday, Thornton was charged with illegal manufacturing of meth, illegal assembly of meth, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was out on bail from a Dec. 15 incident at the same house, according to police. Bail will be revoked this time.
In December, Akron police arrested eight people, including the homeowner, at the address for a meth lab. Police said an 8-year-old boy, who attends the nearby school, was living in the home. His mother was also arrested.
