GREEN, Ohio - Divers found the body of a missing boater in the Nimisila Reservoir in Green Wednesday night.
The man, who was on an aluminum bass boat, was reported missing just before 7 p.m., said Lt. Mike Sanchez with Summit County Sheriff’s office. The man was not believed to be wearing a life vest.
Rescue crews used sonar to search the reservoir for the man in his 50s. They were still trying to remove the remains just before 11 p.m.
The boater's name has not been released. Officials were still working to identify and notify the victim's family late Wednesday night.
Sanchez said the water in Nimisila Reservoir has a maximum depth of 20 feet and there is a slight current. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the reservoir is 742 acres and part of the Portage Lakes State Park.
In a separate incident on Portage Lakes Wednesday night, a man crashed his car into the lake. Authorities said he was able to get onto the roof of his Ford Taurus and wait for help to arrive.
One of the boats headed to search for the missing boater was diverted to the scene to make sure the driver was alright.
