AKRON, Ohio - Akron City Hospital is fully operational again after it was closed to all traffic Thursday night into early Friday morning because of an electrical outage, police said.
As of 2:30 a.m. Friday, Summa Health Systems said the situation was all clear, power was restored and the hospital was back in operation.
There was a fire at a substation in one of the parking lots around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Mike Bernstein, public relations manager for Summa Health Systems.
While the Akron Fire Department put out the blaze, the fire disturbed power to the main campus building. Bernstein said emergency generators kicked on immediately.
People were stuck in four elevators, but they are now safe. There were no evacuations and no injuries.
Bernstein said they are not sure what caused the fire or when the substation will be repaired.
