COSHOCTON, Ohio - The Coshocton County Sheriff’s office and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office are investigating the death of an 8-week-old baby.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s office said the child died at Akron Children’s Hospital at about 11 p.m. Friday night.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, just after 10 p.m., the Coshocton County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call for an infant who was not breathing.

Sheriff’s deputies and emergency workers responded. The child was transported to the Coshocton County Hospital and then to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he died the next day.

The child had apparently received an injury at his home in Coshocton, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office.

Corey Lafferty, the child’s father, is being held on a $250,000 bond for a felonious assault charge.

The Coshocton County Sheriff’s office is investigating. An autopsy will be conducted to determine how the child died.
