AKRON - Akron police are investigating the death of a man struck by several vehicles along eastbound Interstate 76 early Saturday morning.
Police said the incident happened around midnight last night on Interstate Route 76 eastbound near East Market Street when male pedestrian on the right side of the roadway, ran out in front of a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound. The tractor-trailer swerved to miss the pedestrian. A 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, traveling in the middle lane, struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene.
The eastbound lanes of I-76 were closed for several hours overnight.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct and autopsy.
The male pedestrian has not yet been identified and the accident remains under investigation.
