BARBERTON, Ohio - A woman had been dead inside her Barberton home for a while when police arrested her son as a suspect in her murder.
Barberton police said the family of Maureen Petrie had not heard from the 67-year-old woman for about six months, so they called for a wellness check. Officers and family members entered her house on 23rd Street at about 6:49 p.m. Wednesday.
Petrie had been dead for an extended period of time, police said. Officers also found her son, Michael Petrie at the home. The 32-year-old implicated himself in the murder of his mother, according to Barberton officers.
Michael Petrie was charged with aggravated murder and taken to the Barberton City Jail.
During his arraignment Thursday, a judge set bond at $1 million.
