FAIRLAWN, Ohio - Call him the lucky duck that was relieved to become unstuck.
Justine Fiehn, 44, of Fairlawn, was walking her dog Tuesday morning when she spotted a Mallard duck dangling from a tree at Croghan Park.
One of the duck's wings got caught up in some kite string and he was trapped about 8 to 12 feet off the ground.
"I saw a duck hanging from a string and it was just kind of flailing around there. It was stuck," Fiehn said.
Fiehn flagged down a Fairlawn police officer. Workers from the city's street department also responded with a ladder, cut the string and freed the duck.
"The officer just held him in his arms and he was just so tired. He wasn't even fighting," Fiehn said.
Dr. Gary Riggs, the veterinarian who examined the duck, said the bird is tired, has muscle fatigue and is taking anti-inflammatory medicine, but should make a full recovery.
"Just the stress of even a few more hours might have been all for this guy, so it was really good that people went out and got him when they did," Dr. Riggs said.
Dr. Riggs said this lucky duck should be released back into the wild within a few days.
