Family friend charged in rape of Springfield Township girl

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Police in Springfield Township have arrested a Mansfield man in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
Corey A. Welch, 48, is being held in the Summit County Jail after being charged with rape.
The victim called 911 on Nov. 28 after waking up naked, and feeling as though she had been drugged.
She stated that the suspect may have taken pictures of the assault with his cell phone and that the suspect was a family friend staying with them. Officers said they found evidence that corroborated her claims.
Other charges may also be filed against Welch.
