BARBERTON, Ohio - New developments about the Barberton man held in a Haitian jail who is now out on conditional release.

Jason William Petrie, who is also known as Zeke, had been in jail since May, following mass arrests at a pro-military demonstration.

Zeke has maintained he wasn't a part of the protests.

NewsChannel5 talked with Zeke's family after the arrest, and at the time, they were worried sick about his treatment in the Haitian jail because Zeke is diabetic.

As Zeke was released from the jail, he asked "the girl who stood by me and sacrificed for me" to marry him in Creole.

His 20-year-old girlfriend said yes.

Zeke, from Barberton, has been working on humanitarian issues in Haiti for several years, long before the earthquake devastated the island nation.

Another American from Michigan was also released.
