BARBERTON, Ohio - The 67-year-old woman who Barberton police said was killed by her son and left in the house for extended period of time was stabbed multiple times.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Maureen Petrie’s autopsy revealed she had suffered stab wounds in the chest and head. She also had blunt force trauma to the head.
The ME’s office ruled her death a homicide.
Barberton police arrested Petrie’s son, Michael Petrie, after making a welfare check at the house on 23 rd Street Wednesday. Family members had contacted police to say they had not heard from Maureen Petrie in about six months.
Inside, police found Petrie’s body. Michael Petrie, 32, was also inside the home. Police said he implicated himself in the murder of his mother.
Petrie was charged with aggravated murder. He’s being held in the Barberton City Jail on a $1 million bond.
