AKRON, Ohio - A FirstEnergy employee has been charged with stealing copper cables from the company over the last few months.
Jesse G. Hensel, 31, of Clinton, was arrested after a long investigation by FirstEnergy management.
Akron police said Hensel, who worked as an electrician for FirstEnergy for almost four years, was seen stealing copper cables and copper bus bars. Since the beginning of the year, he would take the items from company yards and jobsites then sell them to a local scrap yard, police said.
The total value of copper was more than $28,000.
Hensel turned himself over to police at about 9 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken to the Summit County Jail and charged with theft.
