AKRON, Ohio - Samuel D. Hoffmeyer, 41, of Akron, was sentenced to five years in prison and a lifetime driver’s license suspension, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced on Thursday.
On Sep. 25, 2012, Hoffmeyer crashed his truck into a guardrail at the Sheetz gas station on West Waterloo Road, Bevan Walsh said.
Akron police officers, who happened to be at the gas station at the time, saw Hoffmeyer stagger from his truck and attempt to run from the crash.
Officers found him in some nearby brush and arrested him.
On June 12, a jury found Hoffmeyer guilty of one count of operating under the influence and a specification for having at least five drunk driving convictions within the last 20 years.
