AKRON, Ohio - An Akron man convicted of shooting at SWAT team officers was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
On Monday, a Summit County jury found 52-year-old James G. Maffei guilty of felonious assault of a peace officer, felonious assault, illegal assembly, having a weapon under disability, tampering with evidence and possession of criminal tools.
Prosecutors said Maffei shot at a man’s feet during an argument at his home on Dec. 10.
When the Summit County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team went to Maffei’s house days later to arrest him, shots were fired. A girl who was hiding under Maffei’s bed told officers information that linked him to several methamphetamine labs, prosecutors said.
Judge Thomas Parker sentenced Maffei on Wednesday.
