NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio - A 73-year-old Akron man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on State Route 93 north of Pearlman Road in New Franklin Tuesday afternoon.
Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 12:40 p.m when George Derry, 73, of Akron was attempting to exit a private parking lot in his 2002 Mercury Villager.
Derry failed to yield when trying to turn northbound on to State Route 93 and was hit by the 2007 Chevy Express van driven by William Palmeri, 33, of Akron, according to OSHP.
The collision caused Derry’s vehicle to travel off the west side of Manchester Road, troopers said.
Derry was taken to Barberton City Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:17 p.m.
Palmeri and his passenger, Daniel Graham, 46, of Akron, where not injured as a result of the crash.
OSHP said Derry was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
