SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 4-year-old girl was injured when she was hit by her grandmother’s van Tuesday night.
The incident happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Canton Road in Springfield Township.
The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the 70-year-old grandmother was backing out of the driveway when she stopped her Ford Windstar van, opened the door and said goodbye to the young girl.
That’s when the van went in reverse and the open driver’s side door hit the 4-year-old, troopers said. The van kept going and hit a few trees.
The girl was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where she is listed in stable condition, according to the patrol. The driver went to Akron City Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
