ROBERTSVILLE, Ohio - A Stark County man accused of stealing brass grave markers of U.S. veterans has been arrested.

George H. Swogger, 43, of Robertsville, was charged with causing serious physical harm to the brass markers.

After a month-long investigation, Swogger was stopped at 11th Street SW and Bedford Avenue in McKinley Township, said Chief Deputy Rick A. Perez. The grave markers were recovered in pieces and deputies said they were taken from cemeteries in Columbiana and Tuscarawas counties.

He was also charged with stealing gasoline, a license plate and a portable generator, as well as possession of criminal tools.

The Canton Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation, which is ongoing.
