CANTON, Ohio - A Canton church could be cited for fiery special effects during its Easter Sunday service.
The fire department said it wasn’t notified of the fire at the First Church of the Nazarene on 30th Street NW until Monday.
A prop used for Easter church services was ignited for special effects, which Canton fire officials said is especially dangerous in a place where so many people are gathered.
“The fire prevention bureau would caution anyone considering such ‘special effects’ to contact your local fire department to determine what the requirements are and to seek the appropriate permits,” the department said.
These so-called “special effects” can violate state fire codes and local ordinances.
The incident is still under investigation and may lead to citations.
