NORTH CANTON, Ohio - An Alliance man suspected of having drugs snuck out of a North Canton police cruiser and hid in a nearby home.
Just before 5 p.m. Friday, a North Canton officer pulled over a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for an equipment violation on Salway Avenue SW and put 21-year-old Nickoles Wiley Holly Jr. in the back of the cop car, police said.
While the officer searched the car for drugs, Holly slipped through the partially opened window of the cruiser, according to North Canton police. A Stark County Sheriff’s deputy and a Canton officer with his canine helped in the search for Holly, who fled on foot.
Within a half an hour, officers found Holly hiding in a house on Orchard Dale Drive, police said.
He was taken to the Stark County Jail and charged with escape, obstruction of official business, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, open container, driving under suspension and broken windshield. North Canton police said Holly was also wanted by the Alliance Police Department on a warrant for petty theft.
