North Canton man tries to grab officer's gun during struggle, police say

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - A North Canton man wanted on several warrants tried to take an officer’s gun on Wednesday, police said.
A woman, who was driving on East Maple Street in North Canton at about 5:23 a.m., reported to police she spotted a man acting disturbed.
When officers confronted the man, 25-year-old Jay H. Schweitzer, they found out he was wanted on outstanding misdemeanor warrants. North Canton police said while trying to take him into custody, he tried to run and fought with police.
Schweitzer even tried to take an officer’s firearm during the struggle, according to the police department.
Eventually, Schweitzer was arrested and charged with felonious assault and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Stark County Jail.
One officer sustained minor injuries, but did not seek treatment.
