CANTON, Ohio - A former high school basketball coach charged with videotaping nude boys in the locker room over an eight-year period pleaded guilty in a Canton courtroom Wednesday morning.
Scott Studer, 46, pleaded guilty to eight counts of illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance. The judge immediately sentenced him to 15 years in prison and to pay a $5,000 fine to a fund for the victims in Newtown, Conn. He could have gotten up to 64 years in prison.
More than 70 boys have been identified on the tapes made at Jackson High School near Canton.
The judge said the videotapes are under seal and will be held for two years pending civil suits or appeals. After that time, they will be destroyed.
A father of one of the victims didn't want to be identified, but was close to tears as he talked NewsChannel5 about the betrayal Studer showed to the kids.
Studer was also banned from Jackson Township athletic events for life and cannot contact his victims.
Studer will be classified as a Tier 2 sex offender.
