LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Firefighters in Stark County helped save a life Saturday, rescuing a man trapped in a home that caught fire.
The blaze broke out around 10:42 p.m. in the 4000 block of Erie Ave. NW.
Firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched to the Lawrence Township home, where they saw heavy smoke and flames shooting out, and an elderly man trapped on the second floor.
The man was rescued by firefighters and taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Fire investigators aren't sure what started the fire, but said the cause appears to be accidental.
Firefighters say the snow and freezing temperatures hampered their efforts. The blaze burned through the roof and along the roof rafters causing extensive damage to the attic and second floor.
A person driving by was first to report the blaze to officials.
