SANDY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 71-year-old woman is dead after a hit-skip crash in Stark County early Tuesday morning.
The crash happened on State Route 42 southbound near milepost 1 at Priscilla Street SE in Sandy Township at approximately 1:10 a.m.
An unknown vehicle going southbound on SR-43 struck pedestrian Mary Russell, 71, of Waynesburg, who was walking the west side edge of the roadway heading south, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. That vehicle fled the scene.
A second car, a 2001 GMC Sierra driven by 44-year-old Richard Lisko, of Lowellville, then struck the woman, who was lying in the road.
Russell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lisko was wearing his seatbelt and not injured in the crash.
OSHP said it does not yet know the make and model of the hit-skip vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
