MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A bicyclist was killed after being hit by a car in Madison Township Sunday night.
Around 6pm Sunday the Mansfield Post of the Highway Patrol received a report of a motor vehicle crash on SR 545, north of the city of Mansfield in Madison Township, claiming the life of a Shelby man.
Troopers say 28-year-old Michael F. Stockmaster Jr. of Shelby was riding his bicycle southbound on SR 545 in the area of Debra Lane. A silver 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by 36-year-old Tamara Carroll of Mansfield, also traveling southbound on SR 545, approached the bicycle from behind. Carroll struck the bicycle, ejecting Stockmaster from the bicycle causing him to hit the windshield of the car. Stockmaster then fell from the windshield to the ground where he sustained life threatening injuries.
Passing motorists stopped to assist the victims, performing CPR until law enforcement and EMS arrived to take over. Highway Patrol, the Richland County Sheriff's office and the Madison Township fire department arrived on scene where Stockmaster succumbed to his injuries. The Richland County coroner's office was called to assist at the crash scene.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
