YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A judge in Virginia has dismissed a public intoxication charge against Congressman Tim Ryan of northeast Ohio.

The judge in Lexington, Va., tossed out the misdemeanor case Tuesday. Ryan didn't attend the hearing.

His office says he had been charged with public intoxication on Aug. 25 while attending a staff member's wedding in western Virginia.

Police wouldn't release any other details.

A spokesman for the Youngstown-area Democrat says Ryan denied all along that he had been intoxicated, and they're glad the court agreed.

Ryan was first elected to Congress in 2002 and easily won a sixth term just a month ago.
