STREETSBORO, Ohio - A Portage County man has been hospitalized after police said he shot himself during a standoff in Streetsboro.
Streetsboro police said around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to a home on the 10000 block of William Henry Drive for reports of a 49-year-old man threatening to commit suicide.
On scene, officers viewed a man standing inside the residence with a handgun to his chest through a window. The Metro SWAT team was then called to the home, where members set up a perimeter.
After nearly four hours of negotiations, officers heard a gunshot inside the home. According to police, the suspect then emerged from the home with a single gunshot wound to his chest.
SWAT medics and Streetsboro fire medics rushed the man to Akron City Hospital.
The suspect’s identity and condition are unknown at this time.
