KENT, Ohio - With many baby boomers retiring over the next few years, insurance jobs in Ohio are expected to go through the roof.

A recent study shows that about 17,000 jobs in the insurance industry will open up between now and 2018. Kent State University is taking advantage of the opportunity by offering a degree in insurance studies.

Kent State will be looking for new students, career-changers and military veterans to sign up for the classes.

“Ohio high school and college graduates represent the best chance for filling the 17,000 insurance job openings expected in Ohio by the end of the decade. Thousands of graduates enter the workforce each year, and those with insurance-related degrees have a near 100 percent placement rate," Kent State University Provost Dr. Todd Diacon said in a news release on Tuesday.

The program will be offered at its Salem campus in Columbiana County.
