Deaf female puppy left in box on side of Tallmadge Road in Brimfield

BRIMFIELD, Ohio - A white female puppy was found in a box on the side of Tallmadge Road in Brimfield and Chief David Oliver wants to find out who left the pup so he can chat with the "mope."

Oliver said they found the puppy Saturday and figured she wasn't "lost."

"'Lost' dogs are not left in a cardboard box on the side of a busy highway. To say I am aggravated about this would be a greatly minimizing," the chief posted on his Facebook wall.

To make matters worse, the young female pup is also deaf.

"I would imagine that someone either bought the puppy or was given the puppy and after realizing the puppy is deaf, did a thing which lacks extreme character; they put the puppy in a box and dropped it off," said the chief.

While Oliver notes that dropping a dog off on the side of the road is not the crime of the century, "I will say that I can tell a person's character pretty well by seeing how they treat animals. Whoever did this lacks character, period. It was mopey behavior."

On Saturday, the chief said someone called dispatch asking if the puppy was deaf and advised they had sold or given a deaf puppy to someone. The person was mistakenly told by dispatch the puppy was not deaf, according to Oliver.

"If you are that person, call us again. We would like to find the person who decided it was a good idea to dump this little puppy. I would like to have a Chiefly talk with them," Oliver continued on his Facebook post.

Meanwhile, the puppy is fine and staying at the department being properly cared for and fed by a bunch of "human brothers." Oliver said they will hold onto her and spend time with her until this situation is sorted out.

"If you are the person who dropped this puppy off, I am willing to speak with you about your error in judgement...if you call us first. If we have to find you, the time for talking will be with a judge."
