RAVENNA, Ohio - A convicted sex offender has been arrested in Portage County for allegedly failing to register his address change, and is considered a person of interest in a series of burglaries in the area.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office said 38-year-old Jason Klaas of Alliance was picked up as a part of a joint investigation with deputies and the Marlboro Township Police Department in Stark County.
He’s facing the charge of failing to register his change of address, and will be arraigned soon on a burglary charge.
The sheriff said Klaas is a person of interest in several burglaries that occurred in both Portage and Stark counties.
Investigators identified him as being involved in a burglary at a house in Randolph Township on Dec. 16. Deputies said Klaas broke a window and entered the house with the residents still inside. A person inside the house took a photo of the burglar before he took off.
Klaas is being held in the Portage County Jail.
