AURORA, Ohio - A 79-year-old doctor from Aurora has been indicted on 24 counts, including rape related to a child pornography investigation.

On Nov. 28, Aurora police and inspectors from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service served a warrant at the house of Dr. Mark B. Shaffer Jr. on Windward Drive.

Officers found suspected child porn and took Shaffer to the police station, where he admitted to engaging in sexual activity with children for several years, police said. He was charged with one count of gross sexual imposition, while police continued their investigation.

After speaking with the alleged victim, who was under the age of 13 at the time of the crime, Shaffer was also charged with rape.

On Thursday, a Portage County grand jury indicted Shaffer on one count of kidnapping, two counts of rape, 11 counts of gross sexual imposition and 10 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor.

Police also searched Shaffer’s medical practice on Washington Street in Bainbridge Township. The investigation includes several jurisdictions and incidents that happened over a long period of time, Aurora police said.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Aurora police detective bureau at 330-562-8181.
